A variable font, Commissioner is a low-contrast humanist sans-serif with almost classical proportions. It includes 3 different optical styles: default (grotesque with straight stems), flair (the straight grotesque terminals develop a swelling), loud (wedge-like terminals).
Each optical style comes in a range of weights from Thin to Black, and each weight includes matching italics.
Free for both personal and commercial use, under SIL Open Font license.
The variable axes
Commissioner has 4 variable axes:
- Weight (
wght) ranging from 100 to 900 (default is 100). Thin, UltraLight, ExtraBold, and Black are ideally used for display sizes, while Light, Regular, Medium, Semibold, Bold can be used for both display and text sizes.
- Slant (
slnt) ranging from 0 to -12 degrees (default is 0).
- Flair (
FLAR) ranging from 0 to 100 (default is 0). The values are arbitrary, as the flair axis grows the straight grotesque terminals develop a swelling and joints become more idiosyncratic.
- Volume (
VOLM) ranging from 0 to 100 (default is 0). Makes the serifs wedge-like and adds a little more edge to details. The values are arbitrary, and works only in combination with the Flair axis.
