Brygada 1918 by Mateusz Machalski
Brygada 1918 includes 6 styles: 3 weights (Regular, SemiBold, Bold) with matching italics, and is a digital revival of the Brygada typeface. It has OpenType features like multiple figure styles (oldstyle, lining, tabular oldstyle, tabular lining), small caps, subscript and superscript, currency symbols, mathematical signs, and a wide set of ornaments.
According to the historical research the original Brygada typeface was most probably created during the interwar period, in the Idźkowski and Co. type foundry in Warsaw. The original casting matrices were available in Regular, Italic, and Bold. In the digitization process, the shapes were adjusted and corrected, and the available glyph coverage was greatly expanded.
During a presentation that took place May 29, 2018 at the Polish Presidential Palace, Polish president Andrzej Duda has announced that the Brygada 1918 will be the official font used in the President’s Chancellery for printing diplomas and other official prints.
